| Monica is playing softball for the Matoon Pride this season so I have added another section to this page for the Mattoon coverage! June 13, 2010 - Journal-Gazette & Times-Courier - The day began with finish of a game against Highland in a 4-3 win. Kimble pitched a five-inning one-hitter in a 9-1 win over Midwest Energy with Monica Rondon going 3-for-3 with a triple and a run batted in for the Pride and Megan DeWerff also going perfect in three at-bats with a triple and a RBI. Robinson had 13 strikeouts and allowed just one hit in an 8-0 win over Terre Haute, Ind., in the first game of tournament play. Rondon was 3-for-3, while Shedelbower was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Kellye Kohn, a Mattoon grad, who is at Illinois Wesleyan, was 2-for-3 with a RBI. Rondon was glad her coach knew best. Not only did she connect on the pitch, the Pride's two bases runners could trot home on the home run over the right field fence turning a nervous one-run edge in the sixth inning into a cushion that stood for Sunday's 4-0 championship game win over the Outkast of Bloomington, Ind., in Mattoon Bagelfest softball 18-and-under tournament."" We're teaching fundamentals in everything, hitting, throwing and base running." He has a standout example in senior catcher Monica Rondon, the reigning Area Player of the Year.
