ON TRAINING HUMANS

Every once in a while humans do something that reminds me how lucky Cleopatra and I are to be Shih Tzu. Take yesterday for example. All day yesterday their television was full of trying to decide what kind of person it was who went around for three weeks just killing people for no good reason. Then today those same talking heads kept talking about who was going to get to kill the killer. Then some prominent human by the name of Wellstone was killed in an airplane crash and the same talking heads kept on about that, speculating on whether his death would benefit the Republicans or the Democrats in their elections. I told you that humans aren’t really bright. They choose their pack leader on the bases of a popularity contest they call an election. And the next popularity contest will be held in just about 10 days
.
The big issue in the contest will be whether it is more important to go to war and kill a bunch of humans in a pack called Iraq or to make sure that all the humans in the American pack have enough to eat, somewhere to sleep and medicine if they get sick. Everybody has to listen to enough promises from the humans wanting to be leader of their pack that it is just sickening. If the humans they call voters had half the brains of a Shih Tzu they’d know all those promises aren’t worth a mouldy rawhide chew.

We Shih Tzu choose our pack leader much more intelligently. The Shih Tzu with the most experience, the strongest personality and most brains gets the job and keeps it until some better Shih Tzu comes along. For now, in my pack, that’s me. My daughter, Cleopatra and her cousin, Patches know that and they don’t give me any grief. Well, at least not much. The ones that give me headaches are those people of mine.

Like today, for example. The male, he is off before dawn to drive through the rain to do what he calls, “going to court”. Apparently it is some kind of game they play. The female, well she just couldn’t seem to get it together. I mean I thought that I had her trained. I get her up and get her to get cleaned up, brush that little bit of fur she has (humans don’t have a decent coat like Shih Tzu) then get out doors for her walk. The male wimps out and runs off when it is time to walk him then he complains that he doesn’t get enough exercise,

Well, this morning she just did not want to go out. She doesn’t like the rain so she dawdled around playing a game on her computer and doing what she calls e-mail. I had to line Cleopatra and Patches up at the back door and then go bark at her until she got a move on. I didn’t keep her out long but she got out of sorts when I wanted to go back and make sure that she had picked everything up.

I have been listening to the television tell the humans about the leader of their pack and more and more it is becoming clear that their leader doesn’t have a Shih Tzu to train him. He just keeps going around leaving the messes where they fall and trying to keep everybody’s attention somewhere else. Someone ought to find a Shih Tzu willing to adopt him
