Mom's Surprise "Gift"

From Mom

Another memory lane story about a trick my mother pulled on me back about 1973. Bob and I were running the restaurant in Arcola and Mom and Dad had moved to Kentucky.

The Story - One day I was in the apartment behind the restaurant when Bob walked in carrying a package from "An Admirer". I looked at it and said, "It's from my mom." He didn't believe me but I told him that even though she had printed it ...was definitely from my mom. Then I opened it up and found the bust inside. It was not my birthday and not something I expected from to get from Mom. I kept saying "I know it is from my mom but it isn't something Mom would do."

Finally, I called Mom and asked her if she had sent me anything. She tried to act innocent but failed when she started laughing. She asked me how I had figured it out so quickly. I told her I could tell she had written the address. Mom said she printed so I wouldn't recognize her writing. It told her that her printing looked just like mine just like her writing did. She had seen the statue and couldn't resist buying it then decided to send it from an admirer. Sometimes Mom could be a character - actually, a lot of times Mom could be a character!
